Hi! I'm a independent-leaning high schooler(I like aspects of both ideologies -_-) in a strongly leftist-leaning high school. To spare you irrelevant details, I need to come in tomorrow with articles and quotes/arguments to back up my assertion that there were numerous positives for Latin American dictator-run regimes. My "thesis", if people outside of the education system still call it that, is that despite the lack of human rights, most of these regimes provided a sense of structure and safety to its (non revolutionary, lol) followers. This assertion is primarily backed up by numerous accounts of my family members(and friends of the family) who have either lived in/worked in Latin America for decades during an era when numerous Latin American dictator run regimes were still in power. All of them said the same thing: "Despite the lack of rights, x or y country was one of the safest countries I've ever been in my life."(where x or y represent Brazil, Chile, etc) Can anyone point me to some testimonies/articles backing up(or reasserting) this point, or provide any additional real-life examples/accounts of the positives of living under authoritarian/dictator regimes? I'd be very appreciative! Thanks in advance!... Read More »
